"Aurum" means gold in latin; "Au" is the symbol for gold in the periodic table.
My first project using MentalRay as rendering engine.
The astronaut design was inspired by ASIMO and the LEGO creations of Brent Waller, who kindly give me permission to recreate and adapt his model. [Link]
The music was licensed by CinemaSonix, composed by Igge Scoce. [Link]
The film's idea was, what if the only thing remaining after humanity has gone is a film/memory archive?
After this project that idea is being reworked as an screenplay, codenamed "Persona".

The vortex (side view) was made using basic shapes like rectangles and cylinders with glow properties, handled in groups with scale and rotate keyframes to simulate lights rays in a "2001" style.
The elevator was made using a C-shape modular wall, with a moving glowing object that moves in a loop top to bottom.
The wave effect was made using Maya's deformers, applied to a high polygon object with a gold-like and reflective render material.
The shadow casted over the walkway is a silhouette extracted from the Pioneer space probe plaque.
The real Cinemateca Distrital facade has a characteristic golden door and a red carpet.
Originally, the main character had an electronical voice.. but after some test it souned out of place... without a voice he/she could be an human, robot or alien...
It was my first project using z-depth maps too, eager to play with the depth of field. There was so many rendered files that it was really difficult to handle it. Also the shots were rendered on 480p, because I didn't have enough time or power to render in FullHD.
There are 3 main spheres in the film... the golden planet, the spaceship and the nebula enviroment.... aligned they simulate the shape of the original Cinemateca logo.
